このたび、開発途上国で貧困や災害に苦しむ人々の自助努力の支援と、持続的発展を目的に活動している財団法人ケア　ジャパンの募金活動にご協力させていただき、日本太鼓チャリティコンサートを開催できますことは、まことに喜ばしいことであります。

　財団法人日本太鼓連盟は、1997年11月に設立して以来、日本太鼓の演奏会、ジュニアコンクール、障害者大会、講習会、技術認定並びに国際交流等の事業を積極的に実施してきております。特に海外においては、太鼓の演奏が「日本のこころ」を伝えるものとして高く評価され、財団設立以降28ヵ国で公演を行ない、各国において大変な好評を博しております。また、今年度から、文部科学省の新学習指導要領により伝統音楽の重視が打ち出され、中学校の音楽時間に太鼓などの和楽器が取り上げられております。

　私どもは、これからも新たな公益活動を展開し、日本太鼓を国内のみならず国際的にも普及、発展させるべく最大の努力をしていく所存であります。

　本日のコンサートは、全国各地の代表的な日本太鼓チームから選抜された5チームに第4回日本太鼓ジュニアコンクールで優勝した鹿児島県の山川ツマベニ少年太鼓を加えた6チームによる演奏です。

　本日ご来場いただきました皆様には、日本を代表する伝統文化のひとつであります日本太鼓の演奏を最後までごゆっくりお楽しみいただき、コンサートを通じ、日本太鼓に対するご関心とご理解をいただければ望外の幸せでございます。

　

　It is our great pleasure and honour to present the Taiko Charity Concert this evening with the purpose of supporting the activities of CARE Japan, an international humanitarian NGO, promoting development assistance projects in Asian countries.

　Nippon Taiko Foundation was established in November 1997. The Foundation has successfully implemented many projects including Taiko concerts, Taiko Junior Competitions, Performances by Handicapped Taiko Players, and various seminars and master courses.

　In the international arena, our foundation has dispatched Taiko member teams to 28 different countries, and in all the countries they visited, they were received with overwhelming enthusiasm. Taiko is highly appreciated internationally as successful tools to introduce the spirit of Japan.

　Furthermore, even in Japan, Taiko has been given the attention once again as an important Japanese traditional music. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology revised the Teaching Guidelines to require junior high schools to include a new curriculum which teaches at least one Japanese traditional musical instrument, such as Taiko, in music classes.

　Together with the changes of the society and its needs, we hope to continue to develop new activities with the aim to preserve and further promote Taiko traditions both domestically and internationally.

　Six Taiko teams will perform this evening. Five teams were selected as the best representing teams of various regions in Japan. We are very proud to introduce Yamakawa Tsumabeni Taiko of Kagoshima Prefecture, the grandprize winner of the Fourth Nippon Taiko Junior Competition held in March 2002. We sincerely hope that you will enjoy this evening's concert.

　

　このたびは、日本太鼓チャリティコンサートを通じて、財団法人ケア　ジャパンヘ多大なご支援を賜りましたことを厚くお礼申し上げます。

　ケアは、戦後の1945年に戦後のヨーロッパを救うため、「対欧送金組合（The Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe）」としてアメリカの市民団体、協同組合など22団体が中心になって創立されました。ケアパッケージという食料品や生活必需品の箱セットを困難な状況下にあったヨーロッパの人々に贈ったのです。その後ケア　パッケージによる援助活動は徐々にアジア各地にも広がり、1947年には日本国民にもその援助の恩恵を頂けるようになりました。貧困に喘ぐ家庭へのケア　パッケージ支援、戦災孤児院への食糧・医療・書籍・運動用具のプレゼントなどその活動は広範囲にわたり、厳しい時代を乗り越える貴重な礎となったのです。

　1970、80年代になるとドイツを筆頭にヨーロッパ諸国で次々にケアが誕生し、新たに「地球規模の援助及び救援組合（The Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere）」と改称されケア　インターナショナルとして一体化されました。奇跡的な経済成長を遂げた日本も、かつてアメリカが日本にしてくれた好意を今度は世界の貧困に苦しむ人々に還元していこうと、財団法人ケア　ジャパンの前身である「国際開発協力組織ケア　ジャパン」が1987年に任意団体として発足し、1993年7月に財団法人に認可されました。

　現在、財団法人　ケア　ジャパンはその組織としての目標を「誰もが人間らしく共に生きることの出来る平和な世界を目指す」とし、また使命を「開発途上国で貧困や災害に苦しむ人々の自助努力の支援と、持続的発展を目的に活動する」と掲げ、支援活動を続けています。貧困や災害は、人間が人間らしく生活する機会を著しく奪います。これら悪循環を打破し、希望ある社会を築くためには長年にわたる地道な努力が必要不可欠です。ケア　ジャパンでは特に、歴史的・地域的関係を踏まえてアジア諸国に焦点をあてて、カンボジア、中国、タイ、東ティモール、ヴェトナム、ラオス、インドネシアで実施もしくは、継続中です。そして今後、スリランカでその地域のニーズにあった包括的開発事業の立ち上げを計画しています。

　今回、日本太鼓チャリティコンサートを通じてご協力いただきましたご寄付は、このような目標と使命のもと、ケア　ジャパンが責任持って最大限に有効活用させていただきます。繰り返しになりますが、本日、ご臨席いただいた皆様にこれを機会にケア　ジャパンの活動へのより一層のご理解、ご支援を賜りますよう心からお願い申し上げます。

　

　We would like to express our appreciation of your great support for CARE Japan through the Taiko Charity Concert.

　

　CARE, The Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe, was established by 22 citizens' groups in 1945. The "CARE Package," a set of food and necessary commodities, was sent to people in Europe to support reconstruction after World War II. Since then, the support of CARE Packages was extended and included Japan, starting in 1947. CARE activities included not only the CARE Packages but also the distribution of food, medical care, books and athletic equipment for war orphans. It became a valuable foundation to overcome those severe days.

　

　In the 1970s and 1980s, several CARE organizations were organized, one after another, in European countries, such as Germany followed by others. In accordance with this increase, CARE changed its name to The Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere, and was unified as CARE International. The time came when Japan, which having achieved its miraculous economic growth, was able to return favor by the United States to the poor in the world. International Development Cooperatives Organization CARE Japan, which was the former CARE Japan, was inaugurated as a voluntary group in 1987 and was approved as a foundation in July 1993.

　

　We, CARE Japan, have continued supporting these activities with the vision; "For the peaceful world where all the human beings can live with human dignity and in harmony," and the mission; "Assists with the self-help efforts and sustainable development of people who suffer from poverty and disasters in developing countries." Poverty and disasters deprive people of opportunities to live their life with human dignity. Long-term effort is definitely required to break this vicious circle and build up a society with hope. We have focused on countries primarily in Asia, based on historical and geographic relationships including work in Cambodia, China, Thailand, East Timor, Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia.

　

　In addition, this year we are planning to start comprehensive development projects, focused on the needs of the region of Sri Lanka.

　

　Under our vision and mission, CARE Japan will make the most of your donation through the Taiko Charity Concert. We hope that today's concert will further enhance your understanding and cooperation of our activities.
