1. Study on viscous flow around ship structures 7 6 T. Suzuki H. Suzuki With the interference of pressure fluctuations and speed changes in the turbulence boundary layer, investigates the change of turbulence structure and solves the decreasing effect mechanism in friction resistance. Also, studies viscous flow around ship structures using numerical analysis of the Navier-Stokes equation.
2. Development of flow observation method applying visualized flow system 7 6 T. Suzuki Applying flow visualization, develops a measurement method for density current, vibrating current and flow around ships.
3. Development of wave data observation system using remote sensing 7 6 T. Suzuki Develops a measurement method for significant wave height and mean wave length using reflected rays from the wave surface and continuous or pulse radars from an artificial satellite.
4. Study on simulation of flow around traversing ships 4 4 Y. Toda Simulating flow around slow traversing ships using RANS equation, obtains maneuvering data for tug boats at berth.
5. Study on underwater mobile body skillful in slow motion 4 1 T. Suzuki Y. Toda H. Suzuki Investigates a propulsion system using side fins like cuttlefish with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and model tests. Develops an underwater mobile body.
6. Fundamental study on gravity flow 4 4 Y. Toda Investigates numerical calculation of gravity flow.
7. Study on numerical model of the ocean 5 4 Y. Toda Develops a hybrid model for estimating coastal sea flow with cooperation. Mainly develops a version using after-settlement and boundary fit lattice.
8. Study on new paint decreasing frictional resistance 1 1 Y. Toda Investigates new painting material for decreasing frictional resistance of new categories.
9. Study on relation between traveling speed of moisture distribution in air and sea wind 4 4 T. Suzuki T. Takemi Using remote sensing data, obtains the amount of moisture in air and its traveling speed and from its speed, develops an estimation technique for sea wind.
10. Study on reciprocal action between the air and the ocean 5 4 T. Takemi Using a measuring data observation ship, studies the exchange process of energy and matter between air and the ocean or the advancing process of the air boundary layer.
11. Study on estimation technique of moisture in air and application of forecasting marine weather 4 4 T. Takemi Using split window data from the satellite Himawari, improves estimation accuracy of moisture in air and when applied to marine weather forecasting, it will contribute to safety navigation.
12. Study on structure and emersion of small-scale cumulus unevenly distributed in the west Pacific tropical ocean 2 1 T. Takemi Cumulus groups in the west Pacific tropical ocean exert an important effect on the global climate. Using field data from an observation ship, investigates the movement and emersion characteristics of cumulus clouds.

1. Development of control system for working accuracy by computer 10 8 H. Murakawa Using computer simulation, develops a control system of assembly accuracy for cutting and welding.
2. Fundamental study on conditions of ductile crack initiation 10 9 H. Murakawa Conducts fundamental investigation of ductile crack initiation conditions in materials with structural discontinuity.
3. Estimation and control of welding distortion for offshore structures 10 8 K. Nakacho Estimates welding distortion in the construction of offshore structures by simulation. Develops a controlling method of welding distortion.
4. Strength analysis of offshore structures 10 8 K. Nakacho Considering several aging effects, analyzes final strength of offshore structures. Also develops a simple estimation method for ultimate strength with an aging effect.
5. Strength analysis of local member for offshore structures 10 8 K. Nakacho Investigates objecting grating point of offshore structures, their rigidity and ultimate strength. Also investigates an effective strengthening method for building or repairing.
6. Development of ideal structural element method for dynamic pipes 8 6 K. Nakacho Develops objecting large piping structures for offshore structure, theory and technique to analyze phenomena (rigidity and ultimate strength) of structure affecting dynamic load.
7. Study on dynamic characteristics of composite material reinforced with long fiber 10 6 H. Serizawa Analyzes the effect of fiber arrangement on dynamic characteristics of long-fiber reinforced composite by vibration analysis using lateral harmonic vibration method experiments and computer simulation.
8. Study on cracking generating from hot working 5 4 H. Murakawa H. Serizawa Analyzes cracking phenomena occurring in relation to hot working such as solidification cracking in laser welding, delayed cracking, cracking after stress relief, plating cracking and so forth, from the perspective of new surface nucleation.
9. Study on creep characteristics of composite material reinforced by long fiber 5 4 H. Serizawa By separating the effects of fiber, matrix and interface on the creep properties of composite material reinforced with long fiber, develops the most suitable design concept for composite material.
10. FEM simulation for seam welding of LNG tanks 3 3 H. Murakawa Develops an FEM analyzing program aimed at determining proper welding conditions.
11. Development of knowledge system supporting simulation of hot working 3 2 H. Serizawa Develops a knowledge base in processing welding, cutting and bending plate for process simulation.
