4. Network Coordinator
 Role: - Serve as the central point of contact for Fellows of the Regional Network and for the SOF International Network.
  - Coordinate regional activities.
  - Collate and disseminate information among and between the Fellows of the Regional Network and also between the Regional Network and the SOF International Network.
 Selection Process: - The coordinator will be appointed annually, each coordinator being appointed by country on an alphabetical basis, but with an allowance for deferral or modification based on the numbers of Fellows in each country.

6. Objectives And Plans
- To contribute to the building and maintenance of a global network of Sasakawa (WMU) Fellows.
- To build and maintain a regional network of Sasakawa (WMU) Fellows.
- To enhance the exchange of information between Japan, WMU, comment fellows and graduates.
 
The Regional Network will support these objectives through the following activities:
- Facilitating promotion of cooperation in maritime affairs on a regional and global basis among current fellows and graduates of the Sasakawa (WMU) programme.
- Keeping in touch with the SOF International Network and other local and regional networks in order to obtain useful information expert advice and active assistance in order to help find solutions to maritime issues within the Latin American and Caribbean Region.
- Maintaining e-links among members of the regional network for the dissemination and sharing of new knowledge and facts on developments in the maritime world, as well as for the exchanging of views and ideas.
- Discussing ways and means to further strengthen professional activities, education and research in maritime affairs, and assess the changing need for support from the world maritime community, including the Japanese mentors.
- Encouraging and advancing personal exchanges of ideas and views between fellows of the Regional Network and Japanese maritime professionals and experts.
- Maintaining regular contact, both individually and through the designated coordinator, with the central SOF International Network, thereby providing information on activities, achievements and developments.
- Maintaining contact with students from individual countries and the region who are studying at WMU and provide them with advice and assistance in successfully completing their studies.
 
7. Decision Making Process
 This will be via the electronic exchange of information, ideas and views among the fellows of the Regional Network and the conveying of decisions via similar means to the SOF through the designated coordinator.
 
8. Maintaining A Members List
 This will be done electronically as follows:
- Individually to the SOF International Network, to the designated coordinator and to the other fellows of the Regional Network.
- To the SOF International Network by the designated coordinator.
 
9. Reports To The SOF And Other Regional Networks
 This will be done electronically by the designated coordinator, with an allowance for individuals to do likewise provided they keep the designated coordinator and other fellows informed at the same time.
 
10. Future Goals And Plans
 Due to the overall small numbers, both regionally and in individual countries, as well as the wide geographical dispersion of individual Fellows over vast distances, the short term plan is to maintain electronic linkages with each other and with the SOF International Network both Individually and through the designated coordinator.
 In time, as the number of Fellows increases, the idea is to establish more specific regional objectives, action plans and timelines.
 
11. Contacting Procedures
 This will be done electronically by the designated coordinator who will keep the other Fellows informed. Individual Fellows will also assist through similar means.
 
12. Network Proposals etc. to SOF.
 As these are developed they will be communicated to the SOF through the designated coordinator.
