Mei-Ann Chen began violin studies in her native Taiwan at age 7. On a scholarship, she went to the United States in 1991 to attend the New England Conservatory of Music. While earning her bachelor's degree in violin performance, her conducting talent was discovered by Benjamin Zander, Frank Battisti and Richard Hoenich. She quickly made the podium the focus of her musical activities and went on to become the first person in the history of the Conservatory to earn a double master of music degree simultaneously in orchestral conducting and violin performance. While at the NEC, she won two of its most prestigious awards, the George Chadwick Medal and the Gunther Schuller Medal, for her artistic and personal contributions to the community. A doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, she has led recent productions there of Lucia di Lammermoor and Falstaff, and has conducted the Toledo Symphony Orchestra in Ohio.

　

チェンは台湾で7歳の時にヴァイオリンを始めた。1991年に奨学金を得てニューイングランド音楽院留学のため渡米。ヴァイオリニストとしての学士号取得に努める傍ら、ベンジャミン・ザンダー、フランク・バッチスティ、リチャード・ホエニッヒらによって指揮者としての才能を見出された。その後チェンはすぐに指揮を中心に活動し始め、音楽院始まって以来初めて、ヴァイオリンと指揮の2学位取得者となった。音楽院在学中の地域社会に対する芸術的及び個人的貢献を称えて名誉あるメダルを2つ授かった。現在、ミシガン大学で博士号取得のため修業中。最近ではLucia di LammermoorとFalstaffのプロダクションを指揮、またオハイオ州のトレド交響楽団を指揮した。

　

　

　

David In-Jae Cho, a native of Seoul, holds piano degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and the Peabody Conservatory, and is presently pursuing a master's degree in instrumental conducting under Larry Rachleff at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. He was a Tanglewood Conducting Fellow in 1999, studying with Robert Spano, Seiji Ozawa and Andre Previn. He has participated in the conducting seminar at the Aspen Music Festival as well as master classes of Jorma Panula and Esa-Pekka Salonen, conducting the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and the Schleswig-Holstein Orchestra.

　

ソウル生まれ。オベリン音楽院とピーボディ音楽院でピアノの学位を取得。現在、ライス大学のシェファード音楽校でラリー・ラシュレフに学び、指揮者としての修士号取得のため修学中。1999年にタングルウッド指揮法奨学金を得て、ロバート・スパノ、小澤征爾並びにアンドレ・プレヴィンに師事。アスペン音楽祭では指揮法セミナーを受講し、またモスコワ・シンフォニー・オーケストラ及びシュレスウィッグ・ホルスタイン・オーケシトラを指揮してジョルマ・パルラ及びエサペッカ・サローネンのマスタークラスを受講した。

　

　

　

Born in Tokyo, Yosuke Funabashi studied piano and conducting at the Tokyo College of Music with Yasuhiko Shiozawa, Sei-ichi Mitsuishi, Junichi Hirokami and Richard Schumacher. During this time, he also participated in the Pacific Rim Program of San Francisco Opera Center as Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master. After completing the postgraduate conducting course of Tokyo College of Music in 1992, he was engaged for many opera productions and choral works as an assistant to Pier G.Morandi, Yuzo Toyama, Ken-ichiro Kobayashi, Patrick Summers and other conductors. Since 1993 he has been Principal Conductor of PVM Orchestra Tokyo. As guest conductor, he has appeared with the Sendai Philharmonic, the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. During the 2000-01 season Mr. Funabashi conducted the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and in April 2002 will lead the Verdi Requiem with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

　

東京生まれ。東京音楽大学で汐澤安彦、三石精一、広上淳一、リチャード・シューマッハーらに師事し、ピアノと指揮法を学ぶ。この間サンフランシスコ・オペラ・センターの環太平洋プロジェクトに副指揮者、合唱指揮者として参加。1992年に東京音楽大学指揮研究科を卒業後は、ピエール・G・モランディ、外山雄三、小林研一郎、パトリック・サマース、その他多くの指揮者のアシスタントとしてオペラ制作や合唱活動に従事してきた。1993年から東京のPVMオーケストラの首席指揮者を務める。仙台フィルハーモニー管弦楽団、山形交響楽団の客員指揮者も務めた。2000-01シーズンには東京シティーフィルハーモニーを指揮。2002年4月には東京フィルハーモニー交響楽団を指揮してヴェルディのレクイエムを演奏する予定。

　

　

　

Joji Hattori has pursued a very successful career as a concert violinist since winning the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in 1989. Born in Tokyo, he was raised in Vienna and received his musical training from top musicians in Europe including Yehudi Menuhin and Vladimir Spivakov. He is now a visiting professor of violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Over the last few years, he has devoted significant energies to conducting and has quickly established close relationships with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the New Japan Philharmonic. He now conducts those ensembles on a regular basis. In 2001 he founded the Tokyo Ensemble, a chamber ensemble/orchestra of about 20 leading young musicians from Japan. Mr.Hattori has recorded violin concertos of Bach and Mozart as conductor and soloist for BMG Classics.

　

服部は1989年メニューイン国際ヴァイオリンコンクールで優勝して以来、ヴァイオリニストとして輝かしい経歴を辿ってきた。東京に生まれ、ウィーンで育ち、ユーディ・メニューイン、ヴラディミール・スピヴァコフなど欧州の一流音楽家から教えを受けた。現在はロンドン王立音楽院の客員教授を務める。この数年、彼は指揮に関し多大の努力を傾注し、ウィーン室内管弦楽団、ロンドン・モーツアルトプレーヤー及び新日本フィルハーモニーなどとの緊密な関係を築きあげ、定期的に演奏活動をしている。2001年には日本の若手演奏家を集め、室内アンサンブル楽団である東京アンサンブルを創設した。服部はBMCクラシックから指揮者並びにソリストとしてバッハとモーツアルトの協奏曲を出している。
