Traffic Accident by Age Group and Type of Driving License

So I am going to the Traffic Accident by Age Group and Type of Driving License. The overview of Traffic Accidents by Age Group and Type of Driving License is shown in Table (9). By reviewing this table, it is found that the rate of accident occurred among the private license holders is higher within the age of 20 to 30 years old. On the other hand, among the commercial license holders, the rate of accident occurred is the highest in the age group between 30 to 40 years old. In the age group of above 40, the rate of accident is higher also in commercial license holders than the private license holders. Apart from these data there are also other cases which involve drivers without driving licenses, drivers who do not present driver licenses, and hit and run cases. These cases also cover up to 30% in 1998 and 40% in 1999.

Traffic Accidents by Types of Vehicles

Now I am presenting the Traffic Accidents by Types of Vehicles. The traffic accidents classified by type of vehicle are shown in Table (10). We can see that, except from passenger cars, the buses cause the highest number of accidents. In 1998, 34% of accidents, 54% of injuries and 38% of deaths are caused by buses and in 1999, each of these rates increase up to 49%, 66% and 47% respectively.

Salient Points on Traffic Accidents Occurs in Yangon City

So I would like to present Salient Points on Traffic Accidents Occurs in Yangon City. First, the number of accidents is not obviously increased in spite of increase of traffic. And in townships, that usually occurrs traffic accidents are not obviously altered in each year. The collision of vehicle with pedestrian covers one-third of the total traffic accident and if the collision with slow moving vehicles are to be considered, the sum of these become nearly the half of total numbers of accidents. And then the number of accidents is the highest within the period of 18 p.m. to 23 p.m..

And the accidents on major roads such as Pyay Road, Yngon-Insein Road, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road and Strand Road are nearly one-third of the total number of accidents. The rate of accident occurred among the private license holders is higher within the age of 20 to 30 years old and among the commercial license holders, the rate of accidents occured is the highest in the age group between 30 to 40. And lastly, the number of accidents involving buses covers nearly 50% of total number of accidents.

Causes of Occurring of Accidents and Traffic Congestion

So I am going to the Causes of Occurring of Accidents and Traffic Congestion. First, inadequate Traffic Management System. Second, the drivers and pedestrians are weak in awareness of traffic disciplines. Insufficient road related facilities such as road signs, road markings, guard rails and etc. Then slow moving vehicles and buses are used in a lane due to imperfect physical conditions of road. Then insufficient public transport for passengers. And usage of pavements and streets by road-side dealers. Overload and long time parking of vehicles in CBD area.

The situation of almost all the bus routes entering into the CBD area. And Mixed Traffic, movement of pedestrians, slow moving vehicles, trishaws, bus cars, handcarts, etc. in CBD area.

Roadblock by school ferry and private vehicles at all school times. Road flood during the rainy season. And the last is that, most of the major traffic generator are located in CBD area.
