Volcano Incinerators: VIM and VIRM Series

The VIM and VIRM series of Volcano incinerators were designed, manufactured and tested to satisfy the requirements of the amended MARPOL 73/78 International Convention, and the permissible emission limits of 200 mg/MJ for carbon monoxide and 10% (weight) unburned content of the incineration ash were successfully met. Type approval certificates have been acquired from the governmental agencies in several countries as a result.

■Features

1. For disposal of solid wastes, the incinerator has a bucket type solid waste charging double door, permitting consecutive charging. Once the incinerator is started, it can accept charging consecutively at any time without having to be stopped when any solid waste is added, resulting in greatly increased operating ease. Therefore, refuse generating from the crew's daily life on board can be easily disposed of together with waste oil and other solid waste from the engine room.

2. Waste oil burners for incinerating sludge oil and other oily wastes are available in two versions, the air jet type (VIM series) and the rotary type (VIRM series), from which the client can choose what best meets his needs. These burners can adequately incinerate even coarse waste oil containing a large proportion of water.

3. The incinerator is a cylindrical double structure surrounded outside by an air-cooling Jacket, and the inner surface of the furnace is lined with a castable refractory material. The cylindrical shape of the furnace contributes to the durability of the refractory material and the ease of keeping the temperature in the furnace at a relatively uniform high level, and these features enable the waste to be burned in a short period of time.

4. The temperature within the combustion chamber is kept at 850 ℃ or above to achieve complete combustion, and at the exhaust outlet the exhaust temperature is quickly brought down to 200 ℃ to suppress the generation of dioxins.
