As regards firearms also, in April 2000, JCG exposed a crime in which a Panamanian car carrier smuggled 11 firearms and 24 live cartridges into Nagoya Port.
All of these crimes were uncovered in conjunction with the police authorities and customs officials.
Discovery of a Constricting Phenomenon of the Expanded Boundaries of the East Pacific Plate (December 1999)
While measurement of minute distances on the ocean floor is deemed to be essential for earthquake prediction research, it has not been possible for a long time. JCG advanced development of a device for precisely measuring the horizontal distance of the ocean floor using ultrasound, and was successful in carrying out long-term surveys of movements in the earth's crust deep on the floor of the East Pacific Ocean.
Holding of the Asia Training Seminar on Maritime Drug Law Enforcement 2000 (MADLES 2000)(January 2000)
As part of the Ministry of Transport's official development assistance (ODA), from 24 to 27 January 2000, JCG held the Asia Training Seminar on Maritime Drug Law Enforcement 2000 (MADLES 2000) in Tokyo and Yokohama in which 13 officials from maritime drug control agencies in nine countries in East and South East Asia participated.
