(3) Research and Study on Type Approval
SQCA conducts research and studies on the outline of the system and standards on type approval of the legally designated ship equipment. SQCA makes summaries of the results of such researches and studies and makes necessary recommendations to the concerned parties as necessary and distributes them to the member companies. SQCA makes a material entitled, “THE LIST OF THE APPROVED PRODUCTS BY THE MlNISTRY OF LAND, INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORT, JAPAN,” summarizing major specifications and manufacturers of such pieces of ship equipment that have been given type approval by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in accordance with the Ship Safety Law and the Marine Pollution Prevention Law. SQCA distributes this material to the member companies.
SQCA prepares an English version of this material and distributes them to governments and concerned private sectors of foreign countries to assist the member companies in their overseas activities.
[2] Research and Study on Quality Control
SQCA studies various problems concerning the in-house inspections and quality control by the factories or facilities for manufacturing legally designated ship equipment and measures for solving these problems. In addition to the factories or facilities for manufacturing rafts, GMDSS life-saving appliances and fire-fighting appliances, SQCA recently studies factories or facilities for manufacturing fire-protecting materials.
