この曲の原曲は、1989年に作曲された「ギターと弦楽匹重奏のための〈黒い星座〉」である。第1回「大阪国際室内楽コンクール」の課題曲として、ギターを除いた弦楽四重奏曲に改編した。原曲と同年に作曲された「フルートとハープのための〈きらめく陰影〉」と同様に、「明」と「暗」が相対的な二つの性質でなく、ひとつのカオスに内在するドラマツルギーであるとする作曲者の想念がこの曲のモチーフである。それは墨の濃淡によって光をえがく墨絵の思想、あるいは「陰」と「陽」を天地の絆とする禅の思想を反映している。曲は、冒頭に示される「静」と「動」の呼応が水の紋様のように同心円的に広がり、また収斂する。(作曲家)

This work was originally written in 1989 as "Constellation in Black" for Guitar and String Quartet. For inclusion as a set work in the 1st Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, I have rearranged the work for String Quartet, omitting the guitar. As with "Gleaming Shadow" for Flute and Harp, written in the same year, the motif of this work is the composer's conception that "light" and "dark" are not two relative qualities, but co-exist as a "Dramaturgie" in a single chaos. This reflects the idea that in an Indian ink drawing light can be shown by making use of the light and shade of Indian ink itself, or the ZEN idea of Yin and Yang as the bonds between heaven and earth. In this work the calls of "Stillness" and "Activity" first exposed at the opening, expand, and then contract, concentrically, like ripples on the surface of water.(The Composer)
