Five-year program for developing port and harbor technologies
The 5-year program for developing port and harbor technologies started in FY1996 to take on technological tasks considered especially vital to waterfront administration, mainly covering the 10 priority tasks identified in the June 1992 report Port and Harbor Technologies Friendly to Humans and the Earth: Long-term policies for the development of port and harbor technologies. The program systematically and effectively promotes technological development, placing priority on tasks that 1 ) have interim targets already set for the 9th Five-year Plan for Port Improvement, 2) have some accumulation of research results, and 3) can be completed or demonstrate clear outcomes within the 5 year period. Priority themes include (1) the reduction of construction costs for large-scale port facilities, (2) the utilization of recycled materials, (3) port development in harmony with nature, (4) development of safe port facilities, and (5) advancing port functions.
