Developing logistics bases for imports

The development of "general import terminals" that can offer advanced and efficient cargo handling and storage is urgently needed to handle increased imported container cargo. Other composite facilities, such as distribution processing, data processing for imported items, product display, and sales, are also required. Imported cargo must undergo various processes, including inspection, item checks, and distribution processing, to ensure smooth distribution in the Japanese domestic market. For this reason, import cargo typically spends more time in terminals than does export cargo. This is why pressure is mounting for swift and efficient distribution of imported cargo, so as to reduce the overall transportation costs.

Given this situation, the development of general import terminals is being promoted at the gate-way and subsidiary gate-way ports and Foreign Access Zones (FAZ) to take advantage of various support measures based on the Private Participational Law.
