INSTRUMENT

Antonio Stradivarius 1730

Cello "Feuermann"

This instrument was made by the greatest master, Antonio Stradivari (1644-1737) of Cremona, Italy, in 1730 as one of the 70 to 80 cellos ever produced by him. Its shape is referred to as‘Forma B’ for its narrower style. It is also regarded as one of the most famous Stradivarius cellos for its tone together with its great beauty and light chestnut-red varnish still remaining plentiful all over the instrument.

In 1930s one of its famed owner Emmanuel Feuermann, from whom this instrument bears its name, used this instrument for recordings and concerts worldwide. Feuermann toured all of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas together with this instrument.

This instrument was presented at the Cremona Exhibition of 1987, and in the book of Exhibition, it is referred to as‘the outstanding example’of its type.
