The TRIBON system is used mainly for hull structural CAD, electric outfitting CAD and the definition of assembly procedures. All of them are operated in EWS client-server environment.

Change at Design Stage

The MACISS design system can supply the production department with well-correlated hull construction and outfitting design information, and can define assembly procedures for workshops. Smoother job flow between the design and production departments was achieved by improving the previous job contents at workshops into an integral and easy job procedure to feed back the improvement to the design department for efficient design work. Consequently, timely supply of necessary information to the production department is possible. All geometric data including data for the hull are stored as 3-dimensional data, and data for out-fitting are processed and prepared for supply to workshops relatively earlier than before. This will change the design procedure from the conventional detailed design into the divisional design method such as bridge, machinery room, and pump room compartments, based on concurrent engineering.

Production Management System

The MACISS production management system has been developed on the basis of results obtained from the R&D on shipbuilding industry CIM Frame Model developed by Ship & Ocean Foundation. It consists of scheduling systems covering total schedule through midterm schedule; a process control system which controls work allocation, work instruction and work achievements per process; a hull component distribution system which controls physical flows of raw materials, parts, and products within factories, from the arrival of steel materials through to mounting of assemblies; and an outfitting component distribution system which controls purchase requests for out-fits, and their arrival, stocking, collection, delivery and installation.

Change at Production Stage

The MACISS production management system coordinates the various job schedules, job process control, and distribution control of parts and components, as mentioned above. Moreover, common production information necessary for every workshop is supplied from single-source data generated by the design system. In this system, the basic rule is to supply the necessary information for workshops whenever required. Parts and components, for instance, are assembled by the most suitable fabrication process with timely supply of information for the assembly. Work instruction drawings are also supplied, concisely showing assembly procedures and with very clear expression for easy measurements at workshops, giving information on precise assembly control to the workshops.

Toward the Future

The MACISS was first applied to the construction of an LNG carrier, resulting in improved productivity. In the future, certain subjects such as early preparation of initial design information and the provision of 3D model to new factory automation will have to be taken into consideration in order to make further enhancements as well as continuous improvements of the MACISS.
