Opening address
Welcoming to Tomography99 Symposium in Tokyo
February 8, 1999
Ladies and Gentlemen, and Chairmen
My name is Masahiro Endoh, JAMSTEC ocean research department.
On behalf of the Japanese host to this Symposium, JAMSTEC (Marine Science & Technology Center, I would like to express my warm welcome. We are very happy to be able to have opportunity to hold this 2nd international acoustic tomography & thermometry symposium in Japan.
Modern acoustic tomography technology is based on very classical method of observation. This is apparent in the fact that the word "sounding" in English means investigation itself. Observation with sound and together with modern technology is, naturally, called acoustic tomography―hearing imagery.
During this forthcoming 3 days, development of this technology and its application to the ocean science are reported and future coordination of the observation will be discussed. We are very glad that we can present any help to accomplish this mission.
Please enjoy the meeting and let us know in whatever way we may be of your help.
Thank you very much.
