3 Respect for Creativity

Supervisors require the cooperation of other staff if work improvements are to be met. Attempting to introduce such improvements single-handedly, with little respect to the opinions of other staff, may result in a change for the worse. Consent from all the relevant parties, and that in particular of their junior staff, is a prerequisite to any improvements in work. Supervisors must listen very attentively to what other parties have to say. The ideal way to introduce improvements is for supervisors to spontaneously follow up on staff initiatives rather than forcing them to follow their own idea. To this effect, supervisors must be sensitive to issues of concern, take a creative approach to finding solutions and provide an environment which will motivate the creativity of other members of staff. Supervisors should, for example, incorporate the following in this process.

・Collect as much information related to this work as possible and share it with other members of staff.

・Explain the pluses & negatives of their idea to relevant parties and develop a better version through listening to their opinions.

・Listen to the opinions and ideas of junior staff and try to realize these where possible.

・Clarify the purpose and targets of current work operations and seriously discuss how to improve the performance of these tasks.

・Make use of techniques such as "brain storming"
