Re: The Cambodia-Japan Medical Cooperation Project for the Control of Schistosomiasis in Northeast Cambodia
Dear H.E. Dr. Mam Bunheng,
Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation dispatched three experts, Professor Kazuo Yasuraoka, Professor Hajime Matsuda, and Dr. Jun Matsumoto, to Cambodia, for the period 27 April - 11 May to collaborate with the Ministry of Health, National Malaria Centre and the local staff involved in schistosomiasis control in Kratie Province. We would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude and thanks to you for your kind arrangement and assistance for our visit and stay.
We stayed in Kratie for 8 days (29 April - 6 May). Malacological, seroedidemiological, and animal reservoir host surveys were carried out in good cooperation with Dr. Duong Socheat from National Malaria Centre and Dr. Chuong Seng Ly from Kratie Provincial Health Office, who joined us during the present survey.
Main equipment donated from the Foundation to MOH in this term are:
1) 0ne motorcycle, Suzuki Viva 110, for CNM.
2) One unit of centrifugal separator, Hsiangtai (CN-820), with a transformer, for Kratie.
I. Seroepidemiological Surveys
In our previous survey, a total of 352 blood samples were collected by venipuncture from school children in Kampong Krabei on Koh-Rongiev Island, Sandan, Kbol Chour, Sambok, Chalong, and Hanchey Leu, covering at least 100 river km of the Mekong River (Figure 1).
