Ministry of Transport homepages. When the danger level reaches even Grade 1 (attention / warning), travel companies will cancel or postpone their package tours to that particular destination.

It is not the objective of this meeting to discuss protection measures to counter the conflicts which may occur out of the complex backgrounds of individual countries, or against unexpected accidents. However, we would like everyone here to know how Japan handles such situations and to suggest developing systems by which accurate information can be delivered as quickly and frequently as possible in the event of an incident.

4) Silk Road tourism as seen from Japan - topics and prospects -

・ Consideration of hygiene in meals etc.

 Importance of providing safe water.

・ Consideration of cultural differences when arranging travel.

Common sense regarding customs including religious taboos.

・ Education of tour guides.

 Especially guidance in Japanese language.

・ Authenticity of souvenirs

Reliability in quality and price, and genuineness of local product.

・ Expectations that each country will make it easier to get visas when a tour extends to multiple countries, as WTO is suggesting.

It is common knowledge among the Japanese that the country's history has been heavily influenced by the imported cultures of many Silk Road countries. In the 21st century, the Japanese overseas travel market is expected to develop continuously while maturing. Also, there is no doubt that those Silk Road countries which remain relatively unknown as destinations for the Japanese have great potentials and can attract this market.

This great opportunity for allowing communication and exchange between the Japanese travel industry and the Silk Road countries has been realized with the cooperation of WTO, UNESCO, APTEC and JATA. I believe such an occasion will be successful and beneficial for both sides in thinking together about promoting tourism of the Silk Road countries.
