Hydrographic Survey Vessel COSMO

The hydrographic survey vessel COSMO, built at Tamano Works of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) in replace of the vessel Suou, was delivered to the Fourth District Port Construction Bureau of the Ministry of Transport in September, 1995.

Features

1. COSMO is an aluminum-made catamaran type survey vessel, engaged in the hydrographic work in Kanmon route of western Japan sea. This vessel is in twin slender hull forms newly designed, which ensures the excellent propulsive performance.

2. Powered with two sets of 1,000 kW high-speed diesel engines driving fixed-pitch propeller, COSMO achieves a maximum speed of over 25 knots between the port and the measuring points, and she can make accurate survey work at high-speed range (15 knots) with highly developed measuring equipment, while COSMO can survey hydrographically at low speed range (5 knots) as well, which can cover a vast range of measuring area.

3. COSMO is equipped with the measuring iustruments such as GPS (Global Positioning System), which is adopted as the newly developed surveying system, together with EOP (Electroposik), etc., to meet the various survey requirements.

4. In order to obtain accurate hydrographic data at high-speed range, the devices are made to reduce the vibrations, noises and bubbles on the sounding transducer for COSMO.
