169,963-dwt Ore/Bulk Carrier CAPE OLIVE
The 169,963-dwt ore bulk carrier CAPE OLlVE built at the Chiba Works of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was delivered to H Corporation in July 1996.
The CAPE OLIVE is a flush decker with the main engine and navigation bridge arranged aft. The large ore/bulk carrier, designed to carry coal and grain as well as iron ore, is a state-of-the-art highly rationalized vessel embodying commitment to labor saving and energy conservation.
Features
1. The cargo space is divided into nine holds having nine large hatches, each provided with side-rolling type hatch covers, opening from the middle towards two sides, whose handling requires little human labor.
2. In the living accommodations, public rooms are arranged on the upper deck, and the super- structure is slimed into a shape in order to reduce air resistance.
3. The vessel is designed to be an automated vessel having equipment for unmanned operation of the engine room, various automation systems and safety devices. It has the M0 notation of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK).
4. The main engine is an ultra-long stroke type fuel-efficient Mitsui MAN B & W 7S70MC (Mark-V) diesel.
5. An uni-fuel system, using the same fuel for both main and generator engines, enables the generator engines to directly burn the heavier fuel oil for the main engine, resulting in saving on operating cost.
6. Safe navigation is ensured with a precision finder (GPS), a collision-prevention support system, an automatic steering system (autopilot), an automatic receiver/recorder for weather information and a chart plotter among other things.
7. The vessel is further equipped with a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
