At the same time, the olfactory sense is restored because air passes through the nose. If you can sense the flavor of miso soup at breakfast, your appetite will improve. The scent of a flower will make your day.

・ Resonance in the nose

During esophageal speech, you are supposed to practice passing air toward the nose. In particular, once you are able to pronounce nasal sounds (ma-mi-mu-me-mo; na-ni-nu-ne-no; and un) accurately, these nasal sounds will not be heard as nasal. Sounds will become more articulated and sounds will be heard as attractive. Is the nose a "white elephant?" Far from it! It plays an important role in daily life and in voice production even after surgery.

Q-3 Three years have passed since surgery but, from the chest up, my neck and the back of my head are always stiff. I feel relatively okay when I lean my head forward, but I feel a breaking sensation and pain in the back of the neck if I tilt my head backward. Why?

A-3 This is one of the sequelae of surgery.

In the surgery all of you have undergone, most of the laryngeal organs and the muscles adhering to them were rejected. I think you may have noticed, for example, that you now take a smaller collar size.
