A. Key Points in the Guidance of Initiates

 

In this manual, "instructor" means a person providing guidance in acquiring a new voice and "student" means a person who is receiving guidance in learning to speak again.

 

1. What Is Expected of Instructors

 

(1) Be considerate of your students. Nothing is more important than thoughtfulness for others and their feelings.

 

(2) Be enthusiastic in your work. Otherwise, your attempts at guidance will lack flexibility. Success depends on taking into account the student's character, age, sex, type of operation, and physical condition. Ingenuity is the key to enabling the individual to acquire new speech smoothly. It may help to remember that teaching is usually much more difficult than learning.

 

(3) Exert yourself to improve the skill in voice production.

 

Your students will be all ears to hear you speak because they will be imagining that they will eventually be able to speak like you. If your pronunciation is strange or shows an unpredictable accent, students may feel disappointed in esophageal speech, considering their instructor's voice too low and harsh to the ear. "Why should I work so hard if the result is going to be this disappointing," is a typical
