"Explore Japan" is a map tool for easy access to information in a short time. It will support the transmission of local government information.
The system has the following features:
1) It focuses on the home pages opened by local governments for the purpose of transmitting local information.
2) It makes it possible for users to easily access information by means of 3 sub-systems: free keyword search, simple keyword search and map search.
3) The keyword search system consists of three parts: whole sentence reference, intelligent reference and high-speed reference. An English version is also available to provide access from overseas.
3. Use of the internet by local governments
By making use of the internet various services can be achieved, such as (1) information services by home page, e-mail, electronic news and file transmission, (2) formation of a global network by mutual connection to a personal computer or CATV and (3) creation of internet-related business such as content preparation and virtual shopping. In view of these characteristics, the internet can be used by local governments as the following tools.
