Aims and Scope of ICCAS '97

 

Information technology is said to bring about revolutionary change and progress in every field of industry. In this event, computer applications will include the wide variety of technical issues regarding the information technology which will fundamentally reform the shipbuilding industry.

ICCAS '97 will focus on issues of conventional computer applications by practitioners and researchers. In addition, focus will be on the application of emerging technologies to shipbuilding, such as new product model architecture, industrial infrastructure based on the computer network and so on. ICCAS '97 will cover computer aided shipbuilding in a broad sense.

 

Topics

The subject matter of ICCAS '97 will extend from the present status to a perspective on the future shipbuilding progress. Principal topics are itemized as follows:

 

Preliminary design:

Tendering, initial design, general arrangement, midship section, cost and work estimation, block and building strategy.

 

Detailed and production design:

Structure, hull form, machinery, hull and outfitting designs, shell expansion, production planning, optimization and work and production flow analysis.

 

Assembly and construction:

Parts manufacture, prefabrication, assembly, erection, scrapping, shipyard robotics and shop automation, parts standardization, accuracy control and assemble simulation.

 

Inspection and maintenance:

Inspection standards, liability, survey by electronic data, life cycle maintenance, parts and system reliability, documentation and commissioning.

 

CAD/CAM/CIM systems:

Design, manufacturing and maintenance systems, shipbuilding CIM, hull form representation, modeling methodology, CUI, intelligent systems and simulation based systems.

 

Product modeling/STEP:

Product model technology, general product modeling system, object-oriented database, STEP ship AP's, EDI, STEP projects.

 

Operation and management:

Shipyard operation, facilities and human resources, scheduling, stock control, flexible production, organization, project management, reengineering, concurrent engineering, virtual enterprise, remote production system and CALS.

 

Advanced information technology:

Virtual reality, automated design and production systems, data and knowledge sharing, communication standards, updated object technologies and computer parallelism.

 

General:

Informed shipbuilding industry, system architecture, information flow analysis, competitiveness and productivity of the shipyard. This topic includes general discussion of shipbuilding IT projects, systems and industry.
