昭和6年東京生まれ。
早大卒。
日本航空株式会社勤務の後、作家として独立。
現在、株式会社日本航空文化事業センター役員。
昭和33年小説「あざやかなひとびと」により、第7回「文学界」新入賞受賞。
昭和51年エッセイ「新西洋事情」により、第7回大宅壮一ノンフィクション賞受賞。
昭和57年小説「炎熱商人」により、第87回直木賞受賞。
昭和63年1月「新東洋事情」により、第49回文藝春秋読者賞受賞。
著書:
「革命商人」「炎熱商人」「神鷲(ガルーダ)商人」の企業小説三部作、「新西洋事情」「新東洋事情」「新・新東洋事情」のルポタージュ三部作など多数。近著に小説「仮面海峡」「黎明の世紀」「地球味な旅」「日本型資本主義なくしてなんの日本か」「暗闇商人」(上･下)「最新東洋事情-1995年版-」「鍵は「台湾」にあり」「鍵は朝鮮半島にあり」
最新作に「高麗奔流」がある。

Born in Tokyo 1931.
Graduated from Waseda University.
After working for Japan Air Line, became as a sole writer.
Presently, a member of the board in JAL Cultural Activity Center.
In 1958，received the 7th Bungakukai New Writers Award for the novel，"Brilliant Poeple"
In 1976，awarded the 7th Oya Soichi Non-Fiction Prize to thc reportage."New Essay On The West".
In 1982，awarded the 87th Naoki Prize to the novel, "The Merchant Inferno"
January 1988，received the 49th Bungei Shunju Readers Award for the reportage, "New Essay On The East"
