Re: The Cambodi~Japan Medical Cooperation Project for the Control of Schistosomiasi in Northeast Cambodia
Dear H.E. Dr. Mam Bunheng
In accodance with the Cambodia-Japan Medical Cooperation Project for the Control of Schistosomiasis in Northeast Cambodia, Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation dispatches us, Professor Kazuo Yasuraoka, Professor Hajime Matsuda, and Dr. Masashi Kirinoki to Cambodia, for the period 31 January- 21 February 1998 to collaborate with the Ministry of Health, National Malaria Centre and the local staff involved in schistosomiasis control in Kratie Province. Professor Hajime Matsuda, however, was obliged to leave Phnon Penh for Japan on 10 February due to circumstances beyond his control. We would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude and thanks to you for your kind arrangement and assistance for our visit.
We stayed in Kratie Province for 13 days (3-15 February). Seroepidemiological and malacological surveys were conducted to cover approximately 90 river km of the Mekong River from Kampong Krabei on Koh-Rongiev Island, about 50 river km upstream north of Kratie, to Hanchey Leug, about 40 river km downstream south of Kratie. All the operations were done in good cooperation with Dr. Duong Socheat from National Malaria Centre, Phnom Penh, and Dr. Cheam Saem and Dr. Chuong Seng Ly from Kratie Provincial Health Office, who joined us during the present survey.
Main equipment donated from the Foundation to MOH in the Japanese Fiscal Year 1997 are:
