DOTS is far more effective than any other TB control strategy

but

DOTS coverage (currently 23% of global population) must increase rapidly to achieve our targets.

Conclusions II

● Diagnosis of SS+ cases is much better in DOTS areas (65% vs 32%)

● Treatment success among SS+ cases is much higher in DOTS areas (78% vs 41%). However, it is still below the 85% target.

● In 1994, only 7% of estimated cases received DOTS.
