The Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen is operated from Tokyo southwest to Hakata, 1,069km. Two types of trains are operated "HIKARI" trains stop only at principal stations, connecting Tokyo and Hakata in 5 hours and 57 minutes on the fastest run. "KODAMA" trains serve all intermediate stations with typical travel times of 8 hours and 40 minutes between Tokyo and Hakata.
Furthermore, "NOZOMI" trains travel between Tokyo and Hakata in 5 hours and 4 minutes.
(2)Tohoku Shinkansen
The Tohoku Shinkansen is operated from Tokyo north to Morioka, 497 km. Two types of super express trains, similar to those on the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen, are operating "YAMABIKO" and "AOBA". Yamabiko trains stop only at major stations between Tokyo and Sendai, while between Sendai at all stations and to Morioka, taking 3 hours and 21 minutes. Aoba trains stop at all stations to Sendai, taking 2 hours and 25 minutes.
(3)Joetsu Shinkansen
The Joetsu Shinkansen is running between Tokyo and Niigata, 302km. "ASAHI" super express trains stop only at major stations, and "TOKI" super express trains stop at all stations. Running time for ASAHI trains is 1 hour and 40 minutes, and for TOKI trains 2 hours and 23 minutes, between Tokyo and Niigata.
