THE CURRENT FREIGHT TRANSPORT SYSTEM CONDITION AND THE STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT ORIENTATION IN THE FUTURE.

 

 

Viet Nam is located in the South East of Asia and Endochinapeninsula, with the area of 329,000 kin Viet Nam has the population of 77 rnifljon according to the statistic of 1996. Viet Nam has the second biggest population and the fourth largest area among countries in ASEAN. Viet Nam is almost as large as Japan but the populacion is nearly 2/3 of Japan.

 

Since 1989, Viet Nam has continued the "renovation and economic door opeo." policy that was started in 1986. Viet Nam is quickly moving from a centrally planning economy to a market mechanism one with the State management and the participation of all economic sectors. Despite of many difficulties on financial resources, management policy and level, fonign co-operation..., Viet Nam has striven with noticeable ability and achieved some success. Foreign economic relationship has expanded and developed, foreign economy has increased rapidly. The economy is gradually stable and grown. The growth rate of GDP is 8.5%/year in the period of the year 1991 to the year 1995. The output of service and industry in GDP is grown over 10%/year. The gallop inflation is stopped and gradually decreased with only 4.5% in the year 1996 Infrastructures, including the transport infrastructure have rehabilitated, improved, upgraded, expanded and developed. Material distribution system (freight transport system) has contributed in the economic renovation in general and Vietnamese transport development in particular.
