In recent years, engines for small coastal fishing boats have had not only to consume less fuel and lubricating oil and to be more reliable but also to be more powerful because of the need for ever higher speed. At the same time, environmental issues have come to the fore worldwide, and emissions from engines will be subject to tighter regulation.
Against this background, Isuzu Motors Limited has developed a new marine engine, the UM6HE1TC, which is designed with emphasis on lightness and compactness and which embodies the foremost in today's technology.
The new engine features one of the highest power outputs for this class, high torque in the medium- to low-speed range, reduced black smoke under heavy load, reduced blue-white smoke under light load, improved fuel and lubricating oil efficiency, and assured durability and reliability,in which Isuzu's products traditionally excel. It embodies an extremely high level of refinement.

Komatsu Marine Diesel Engines
Komatsu Ltd. has been manufacturing and marketing marine diesel engines since 1976. All the currently produced models are turbocharged high-power engines with raw-water cooled inter-coolers, available in a series of up to 941 kW in output. The engines of 105 to 117 mm in cylinder bore are equipped with aluminum shaker pistons, and those of 125 mm and above, with the world's first ductile cast-iron pistons (FOD). Both meet the requirements for high-power output.
In recent years, Komatsu has developed more easily operable engines (6-diameter 140,) with clean exhaust gas, using electronic fuel injection pumps. The manufacturer has also introduced a two-stage injection hole nozzle, a new re-entrant combustion chamber and other new technical features to cope with the expected application of further tightened emission control rules.
Komatsu's marine engines are lightweight, compact and high-power diesels, which are extensively used as durable and reliable main engines for fishing boats, and they are also used for passenger boats, work boats, and pleasure crafts. They can also serve as thruster auxiliary units.
