Established in 1965 as a Japan-U.S. joint venture the company has become the leading manufacturer of STERN TUBE SEALS AND BEARINGS in Japan for its advanced technology meeting the requirements of the times. It was Japan Marine Technologies Ltd. that developed for the first time ever the stern tube seal rings from the fluoric rubber elastomer (viton) which are now popular world-wide.
In 1976 and 1984 the company concluded agreements between V/O Licensintorg, USSR and China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China respectively for licensing its technique of manufacturing stern tube seals.
In 1989 the company announced its successful development of AIRGUARD STERN TUBE SEAL SYSTEM, an epoch-making Anti-Pollution Stern Seal System, that meets the requirements to prevent oil spills outboard which has become more stringent in recent years. The first ship equipped with the AIRGUARD has completed 7.5 years operation with perfect seal condition as of May 1996.
