|For using the library effectively, you will be able to type your search string into the space provided beside the "search" button. However, many users will want to click the English Search link provided above that entry field.|
|The page that opens has three interactive items.|
|The Expert Search page is the most complex partof the library, and so we'll get it out of the way right away. |
Any number of parameters can be input on this page, as outlined below:
|1.||Document Language: Check or uncheck the boxes to select your language.|
|2.||Fiscal Year: The year the work was produced. Our fiscal year starts April 1st. Please input the year in four digits: e.g. 1962, 2002.|
|3.||Document Title: If you know the name of the thing you are looking for, please input it here.|
|4.||Document Type: This is the form of media that the material was published in, for example, leaflet, TV script or textbook.|
|5.||Category: This is the field, such as history or linguistics, that the material specializes in. The listing generally follows the Japanese National Diet Library Classification system.|
|6.||Organization Name: The group that produced the material with The Nippon Foundation's support.|
|7.||Project Name: The name of the project that the group conducted. Please include the fiscal year (2) if you use this heading.|
|8.||Project type: Sometimes, The Nippon Foundation runs its own projects. Use this section to select these types of projects.|
|9.||Project location: The place that the project took place. If the Organization is based in London, but their work is in sub-Saharan Africa, the the Project Location is sub-Saharan Africa. Please note that we are working to put the country listing in alphabetical order. Currently, it is tied directly to our Japanese system and is in the order of the Japanese syllabary.|
|10.||Organization Location: The opposite of (9), above. In the above example, the location would be London. The order of the Japanese prefectures runs in the traditional Japanese order--from North to South.|
|11.||Sort by: Here, you can decide how to order your results. Options are: by document title, by organization or by fiscal year.|

This is a sample group outline page.
Most people will not be able to read the outlines of organizations due to language issues.
For those that can, please note that the underlined sections at the bottom of thesepages are the various works produced by thegroup in question. These underlined words areclickable links.
Clicking on one of the "seikabutsu" links will bring you to a page like this one. From here, all you have to do is to click on the variousunderlined sections to read the content thatit represents.
Finally, some of the documents have been reproduced in PDF form for those with fasterinternet connections who want to download the material in a format close to what it originallylooked like.
